Here is an updated picture of the under construction Pizza Port in San Diego's Ocean Beach. As you can see, it is still in the early stages of being built. It looks like it could be two stories, at least partially, and I am guessing any second floor will primarily be a deck. I don't think this location will be ready anytime before March or April. I am still hoping that this brewpub will have a family-friendly atmosphere, or at least one that does not turn off families like some other Ocean Beach restaurants with good beer. Heck, I'm a dad and if it's too barry and loaded with OB heat bags, I'll be relegated to slamming a beer waiting for take-out, which is no way to enjoy a good beer.
The sit down, family-acceptable pizza restaurants in Ocean Beach / Point Loma include Oggi's that has decent pizza but the beer stinks, The Venetian that has awesome pizza and an awful beer selection and The Old Venice that has awesome pizza and an awful beer selection. Pizza Nova is a non-starter on pizza and beer despite high marks for family friendliness, and while the beer selection at Newport Alehouse & Pizza is outstanding and the pizza decent, it is no place to bring the kids. Sometimes life calls for a good pizza and good beer, and I am hoping that the Ocean Beach Pizza Port will answer this call.

I was in Pizza Port Solana Beach over the weekend and was told that the OB Pizza Port will open on Feb 15 2010
That's good news. I drove by yesterday and need to post a new picture. It has windows and is all in black paper. The contractor is going to have to hustle to open in less than a month.
People have been going on about this for months ... prepare for all the SD patrons of the Solana outlet of this chain to transplant out of convenience. More frequently, and more of them. In other words, there is no place in SD county that has the pizza + beer combo that justifies the wait/line that this place will have.
A patron of the Solana outlet since 1992 (BEFORE they had beer ...), I haven't visited Pizza Port since the tables on the porch went away. Between the poor quality of the beer of late (read: inconsistent flavor and character), and the demise of the love-all, serve-all tables out front - I just haven't been able to bring myself to it. Just can't take the din, smell of stale beer/vomit, and wailing children inside.
Ever been to OB? I'm a former resident. Gotta wonder where all the suckers are gonna park ...
I have read the hype and speculation on BeerAdvocate for nearly a year, which is why I started to post the occasional picture. It will be hard to meet expectations, especially for those not living in North County. I live close enough to OB to know that parking is impossible, especially on weekends and all summer. Can't comment on the beer quality, recently had two growlers from Carlsbad PP, and they tasted pretty good to me.
drove by this am and looks like they are putting the finishing touches on the exterior. Saw the brewing equipment inside and a huge silo looking thing on the outside.
Couple weeks away.
Really looking forward to Pizza Port in OB. A great addition to the hood :)
